I have been an advanced practice psychiatric nurse since 2005, garnering extensive experience treating patients with medication and psychotherapy. I am a US Navy retiree and have worked in group practices, with the Squaxin Island Tribe, integrated primary care practices, and in solo private practice. In addition to providing expert clinical care, I take pride in being responsive, authentic, compassionate, and building solid therapeutic relationships which are crucial to effective outcomes. Lifelong learning is a passion of mine, and I continually seek opportunities to further my education and learn from others. I am an active member of my professional associations, enjoy collaborative relationships with colleagues, and precept graduate nursing students. Below is a summary of my education and training:

Providing all community members of the greater Tacoma area with options to individually flourish and feel supported in their mental health is a personal mission of mine. I myself encountered a severe lack of in-person care opportunities in Tacoma while seeking out my own mental health support services in the past, and have been witness to this same lack of access for so many friends and community members. I serve Mindset’s clients, and the greater community, by establishing and overseeing community relationships, client acquisition, and overall business maintenance and operations. I value an individual’s identity and autonomy above all else. I work to empower others in every facet possible, while realizing myself that I must have an evolving mindset that can lead me to further compassion and growth. Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) for mental health provide a vital and unique service to the community; hospitalizations are not the most beneficial outcome for many individuals who are facing a mental health crisis. A gap existed in our community for providing intensive mental health services to those individuals who are best suited to remain in their regular home environment and maintain a daily profession. I am personally dedicated to champion for clients who would incur a detriment to their overall health journey if separated from their daily life and home. I believe that every individual has the power to overcome life’s challenges if they have been provided the correct “toolbox” to do so. My professional and educational background is in construction management from California Polytechnic State University, where I am completing a senior project. I have always had a strong dedication and desire to advocate for the mental health of those around me. After developing a deep passion for dialectical behavioral therapy, DBT, through the teachings of Dr. Marsha Linehan, I wanted to find a unique way to create a positive impact in my community’s mental health, despite not having a health care background; Sara Weelborg, ARNP has been my answer, and counterpart, to making this dream a reality. Utilizing her extensive clinical capabilities and my own skills in general management, we have been able to see this dream come to fruition. I am beyond grateful for the clinical guidance to create a program that serves those who are in great need.

I am committed to providing an authentic, approachable, and non-judgmental experience for all my clients. I believe in creating an inclusive space where everyone feels welcome and respected. As a lifelong learner, I am constantly seeking new knowledge and skills to better support my clients and address their unique needs. I'm a little bit East Coast and a little bit West Coast, bringing diverse perspectives to my practice. With 15 years of nursing experience across various specialties, I discovered a common theme that shaped my career path: the critical need for more mental health care in our communities. This realization inspired me to focus on mental health, where I aim to build a trusting relationship where you feel heard, understood, and empowered on your journey.

Mabel Bongmba, MD

Mabel Bongmba, MD, FAPA, is a board-certified psychiatrist. She earned her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and completed her psychiatry residency at San Mateo County Behavioral Health Psychiatry Residency Program, where she served as Chief Resident. Dr. Bongmba is a dedicated advocate for equity and inclusion in healthcare. She is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and has been recognized for her contributions to patient safety and excellence.

Devin Shoquist, MD
Independent Contractor, Psychiatrist

Dr. Shoquist supports the Mindset team as an individual psychotherapy provider. He has extensive experience providing mental health services to our community and is exceptionally skilled in the treatment of mood disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. He has had a successful solo private practice for many years and is a US Navy veteran. Dr. Shoquist earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
